Update includes compatibility with STEP XML and expanded file translators
The service pack 1 release of version 7 of the Kubotek Kosmos MBD File Utilities family of CAD tools provides important updates to the support for reading CAD data from the most popular CAD file formats. The release also enhances support for display of text and objects trimmed with cutting planes.
Improved Translators
Reading of native 3D CAD files has been extended to Dassault Systèmes CATIA V5 2025, Autodesk Fusion and Inventor 2026 formats, and Siemens Digital Industries Software NX 2412 and Parasolid 37.1. The View program also includes support for reading CATIA V5 2025 and NX 2412 drawings.
Improved PMI Usability
All four programs (Validate, Revision, View, and Convert) now support text attributes which direct the characters to remain always facing the display plane. This improves readability of notes and dimensions and provides a better match to how the data appears in its originating CAD software. Similarly, in 7.1 saved views or captures which have been sliced with a cutting plane now automatically activate those cuts to display only the remaining portion. These special views now show interior details as they appear in the original CAD data system. The software also now supports reading of Geometrical Sets (GeoSets) organizational objects from CATIA data as nodes in the part tree.
The Validate program, which is used to verify derivative CAD files in manufacturing and inspection match the authority dataset, has added a one-click button to unhide any hidden entities. The validation software also has added options for automated folder/list compare modes to treat partial matches as differences so they can be manually reviewed.
STEP XML & Assemblies
The 7.1 release of View and Convert also introduces support for reading STEP XML 3D assemblies structures. This relatively new standard CAD file format (Part 28 of the STEP ISO 10303 standard) captures assembly structure and allows for collection of parts defined in formats such as STEP (Part 21) and JT. Related assembly improvements in these programs now default to hiding PMI data related to referenced parts to reduce visual clutter and the option to open referenced parts and related PMI in a separate window.
