KeyCreator 2021 Service Pack 2 Released

Software updated with file translators and several new features

MARLBOROUGH, Mass.—Kubotek3D, a leading supply chain software provider, today announced the 2021 SP2 service pack release of the KeyCreator software products. This release provides updates to many CAD file translators, several new functions and options, and dozens of fixes.

Updated CAD Translators

Reading of CAD files in KeyCreator Pro software has been updated to support the latest versions of several CAD file formats:

  • Dassault CATIA V5 R2021x (R31) PMI and drawings
  • Siemens NX 1953 3D and 1961 drawings
  • Siemens Parasolid v33.0 (X_T)

Native drawing files (CATIA, NX, Creo, SolidWorks, and Solid Edge) and IFC file readers have also been updated to address a specific vulnerability which allows a CAD file containing malicious data to potentially crash the program.

Assembly Performance Improvements

Significant speed improvements have been realized during opening of KeyCreator files containing large numbers of references. For example, a substantial CKD file from a long-time Italian user containing 958 external references takes 8 minutes and 12 seconds to open in KeyCreator 2020. In the 2021 SP2 release the same file opens 4 minutes faster.

Additionally, the Chain Offset function in the Transform menu has been improved to support selection of lines/curves contained in a part reference, without needing to enter in-context edit mode. This saves users several steps when copying entities or edges from referenced geometry.

Drawing Layout Enhancements

The user interface of the Projected Instance function in Drawing Layout has been updated to allow users to select between two vectors either along or perpendicular to the linear edge/entity selected to define projection direction (see image above). This change broadens the number of lines in a view which can be used to define a desired projected view.

The Projected Instance function, and Drawing Layout in general, has been updated to prevent potential confusion with projection angles with complex geometry. Layout projections are now always locked normal to the drawing, matching the classical “textbook” method.

Additional Enhancements

Improvements have been made to the line and arc sketching function in KeyCreator to improve compatibility with position menu, position snapping, and shortcut key systems. This function can improve basic drawing productivity by providing additional inference snap lines horizontal and vertical from start and last positions and extended from all lines in the sketch session. To better match with user workflows, the function now respects the preeminence of the universal position snaps over it’s own inference lines.
