Run Your Software Anywhere - Flexible Licensing

Professional software relies on license authentication to ensure that only authorized users have access. This process should be simple and seamless. Our core mission is to support the productivity of our customers, and believe part of that means providing superior licensing flexibility for a variety of use cases, from the office to a remote location.

Flexibility for desktop-based licenses

Over the last decade the software industry as a whole has continued to make accessing licensed software from multiple locations easier. The explosive growth of employees working remotely has been enabled by these systems. We recognize that the simplest and most common protection method used for professional software is login authentication paired with web-based applications. The 3D engineering segment is an exception, with Windows/desktop applications still the norm. This has led CAD/CAM to a bit more complex situation than most professional software users experience.

Activation and floating options

Windows-based CAD/CAM users are typically using temporary node-locking to a workstation (AKA activation) or getting licenses served across a company network (AKA floating). Moving a node-locked license between computers is usually easy and done via a quick check-in/check-out activation process over the internet. This is an ideal system for engineers that sometimes need to run their application on a laptop that will be off the network. For companies with the IT resources to setup secure remote access (such as VPN) for employees working remotely, floating licenses are often the best way to provide flexible access to team members regardless of where they are located. Kubotek Kosmos provides it’s desktop application customers with the full range of these common activation and floating license options.

A third option: Login

In further support of flexible licensing options Kubotek Kosmos innovated a third simple option for customers to run their desktop software by login. This system is as simple as entering credentials when the software starts, like a user accessing web-based software. When the session ends, the software is available for login on any other computer. All of our activation licenses support this alternative authentication method for users with active maintenance/lease.

We also understand that the customer portal used to manage licenses is a major part of the service. Having built our own license systems, we know the challenges to maintaining an easy-to-use interface that serves all the various needs of a diverse customer base. As a vendor focused on CAD interoperability, we are users of numerous licensing systems across our space. The continually high ratings we get in the category of installation/setup on software review sites like G2 confirm that our customers appreciate our efforts.
